San Francisco to New York - #12# (Colorado)

On my way to Colorado.

The state of Colorado was named for the Colorado River, which early Spanish explorers named the Río Colorado for the red colored silt the river carried from the mountains.

The largest ancestry groups in Colorado are German (22%) including of Swiss and Austrian nationalities, Mexican (18%), Irish (12%), and English (12%).

Windows Xp Desktop was most likely conceived in Colorado...

San Francisco to New York - #11# (Monument Valley - Utah)

As someone famously wrote, this place looks like the skin of America has been stripped away and nothing remains but the dusty flesh of earth.

Colors here vary from blood red, sun-burnt orrange to deep purple.

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is a reservation park managed solely by Native Americans.

It is the center of Navaho Nation, the largest indigenous reservation in the USA.

In 1864 the US government forced the Navajo from their reservation at gunpoint an event known as the Long Walk. They were eventually allowed to return to their lands but many died during this Death March.

Utah is the Mormon State, as more than 50% of its residents belong into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

Mormons were forced to march West into uncharted territory after being prosecuted by members of other mainstream Christian denominations in the East.

Below is an account from one of their scouts.

The Hole-in-the-Rock was a collective effort from Mormon Pioneers to get access to the Colorado river by wide opening a rocky place so that wagons could cross into the river.

Plural marriage is no more officially supported by the Mormon church.

San Francisco to New York - #10# (Grand Canyon - Arizona)

The mighty Grand Canyons are divided into the North and the South Rim. The South Rim is the more touristic and accessible one.
